Question Treo 650 Mac support

I have a Treo 650 on the UK Orange network and need to update the software to version 1.20 so that it will support my thb carkit .

The only download available from Orange is a windows version which is not much use as my Mac won't run exe files . Orange have been less than helpful and I am still awaiting answers from palm Europe and Thb.

Since Palms are the most Mac-friendly PDA's and most Mac users tend to go with them I cannot be alone in this situation .

Has anyone else come across this problem ? And does anyone know of a Mac installer for Treo650-1.20-OUK out there somewhere ?

I have windows machines at work but they are all networked and IT will not allow any new software to be installed on them , otherwise I could use one to do the update .

Unless you hear anything back from Palm or Orange you might be stuck.

Do you know anyone with a Windows PC?

Late on this afternoon I got a reply from THB Germany , directing me to a page on Palm USA website with links to updaters for various versions of the 650 and available for both platforms . The updater I need isn't yet available but I am told it will be posted within the next few weeks .

I did manage to borrow a Windows laptop and managed to perform the update tonight, the carkit works really well with the phone application giving excellent sound quality on receive through the supplied loudspeaker (way better than the Nokia kit I had previously for my 6210 & 6310 handsets) and , according to people I called very good on transmit with the microphone mounted up by the front interior light . The kit can be set to auto answer promptly and mutes the car audio system when a call is received or initiated .

Unfortunately , it seems that the carkit will not reproduce audio from other applications such as my TomTom Navigator 5 ; this is a bit of a nuisance and can only be a result of the way the software has been written - I have heard of a Seido cradle with built in amplifier which claims to amplify Navigator voice directions . The BIG advantage of the THB kit , though , is that once the base unit and other components have been installed in your car , the cradle can be exchanged if you change your handset .

Windows saves the day!

The speakers are built into the cradle on this one and there is no handsfree compared to the setup you have just now.
