I would like the pda to send/recieve emails, for contacts for my business, calender/diary for business and also future satnav operation - any ideas/suggestions would be gratefully rcvd!

I can only talk from the perspective of my own PDA which I bought last week - Palm T/X
Firstly if you have the ability to connect to Wireless networks (home or business) then definitely ensure you get a PDA that has Wireless ability. Bluetooth ability to connect to your phone is also essential.
In terms of the Palm - it uses Palm O/s as opposed to Windows but that makes it very easy - it is not a multi processing O/S so when I go into one app it runs that app. Open another app that is the app that is running. Talking to a colleague that had an IPAQ one of his gripes was he was always having to check what was running and then close apps down. This was interesting as my gripe with the palm would be I cannot alt tab between apps - having spoken to my colleague I think the palm actually works better. Basically it remembers exactly where you were last in the app. So for example I am reading a book on it - I go into email check my email when I go back to the book it is still at the same position it was when I left it.
Palm is cheaper if you want Wireless and Blue tooth and in addition if you work can arrange for exchange to have active sync enabled then you can sync your calendar and email directly to the server. Otherwise all other syncs work tasks/memo/contacts. The pda also comes with docs to go which is compatable with excel/word and power point.
So at this point (in a year it maybe different) my money would be on the Palm T/x - its very user friendly and great value - certainly its been a very good buy for me.
Anyway fire away with questions - or if people disagree lets discuss it
