Wink mio 168 help

hi im new here thought i would try to see if i could get some questions answered :-)

my mio 168 is spot on other than when the battery goes flat i have to reload tom tom 3 back on and can be a pain.

is there any possible way i could put the software onto a sd card so if it does go flat again i can just fire it up again via sd card?

also im thinking of getting tom tom 5 software
can it be done with that version too? as its 5 disks apparently?

any help appreciated

thank you

contops nearly forgot
i broke my mio 168 and new one arriving tomorrow i just wondered will my original tom tom 3 work on it as its a different unit and not registed to that one?

First you should be able to reactivate your TTN3 maps on the replacement Mio168.

The way round the problem if your battery goes flat, and I'm talking about TTN5 at the moment, is to download the update to 5.21 and save to your hard drive.

Unzip the folder. Open the new (unzipped) folder and click on PocketPC. Here you will see two .cab files tomtom.cab and ttn.cab.

Put a New Folder, onto your SD Card and leave it named 'New Folder'. (Preferably with a card reader as it's easier).

Copy and paste the two .cab files onto your SD Card.

Right click on one of the .cab files icons and choose properties.

Now tick the Read Only box. Do the same with the other .cab file.

(If you don't make them read only they will vanish into thin air).

Do a soft reset.

Now should your battery go flat, if you're not at home plug into your cigar lighter, start your Mio and choose Start - Programs - File Explorer. Look for and select Storage Card.

Now click on the New Folder. Run both the .cab files, it doesn't matter which order, and you'll be up and running.

You will only get navigation and if you've added any fancy voices etc., you'll have to load them back in.

However, it will get you back home.

With TTN3, I believe there are four .cab files. Find these on your device and do as above but using all four.

Just realised my answer to this may have been overlooked, lost at the top of the page, I nearly missed it myself.

When you get your Mio back all you have to do is insert the programme disc and follow instructions as you did when originally installing on your old one. You will get a new activation code as your device code will have changed.

TTN6 is apparently coming out soon, possibly May, so it may pay you to wait rather than buying TTN5. Having said that, TomTom may do what they did before when they offered a reduced price upgrade form 3 to 5 and do the same for 5 to 6. Or of course wait for 6 to appear and see if you can get 5 cheaper.

I must admit my instructions re the .cab files does look confusing but believe me, it's easy done than said. It actually only takes a few minutes.
