As far as Im aware Tomtom does have issues with CF receivers. Although some people have had them working. Personally I think your better off with a bluetooth receiver as they are just as portable.

I've used TT5 with a CF receiver and WM5 with no probs. Just be sure to select other NEMA, and use the correct baud rate as per the CF GPS manufacturer.

Thanks for the replies. The Pda i have been looking at is the Dell Axim X51v 624MHz Pocket PC. But have read a lot of things about compatability.Other option is to go for the Mio A201 with Tomtom 5 on sd card but not sure if it is worth the money as i want to use it as a pda aswell as satnav.

The best option would really be a bluetooth gps unit, the thing i dont like about the cf option is how it sticks out the top, one bad knock and its broke, at least the bluetooth receiver can fit in your pocket, glovebox or even put it in your sun visor.

We have two here, one on a dell axim and one on the ipaq 4700 and work great.
Also it is more portable, as in anyone with the correct software can use it, i have a nokia 6600 phone and have used tomtom on it with the bluetooth gps, so i can use it with my pda or my mobile.

Plus the receivers from ebay were only £45, i think this is even cheaper than the CF options.

I use the TT mk2 which is 20 channel. Very small, and very quick TTTF.

You're looking at approx £70

Why not ebay?

They are brand new, and pick upto 32 channels, in case you want to look, the model is the BT-321 by Holux.

I have one and two of my friends and not one problem so far.

But there is only 24 satallites in orbit, and two are spare so if you could pick them all up you would only ever get 22, but because there spread all around the globe you will never ever pick 22 up, i should think at one given time you would pick between 6 and 9 up at the most so the amount they can pickup is really irrelevent, i think as long as you have 3 you can get a decent position.

I took the info from a web site on gps and the satallites.

Its the sensativity that matters, and as the one i mentioned will also work indoors it should be very good in built up cities etc.

Yes it is a bit daft why it has that, maybe there trying to get more search results, if you look in the description though it lists many pda's etc.
