| | The Mio 168 will take a 1GIG SD Card, however, as I use only the GB and France plus maps and find they fit on a 512MB Card, I decided to purchase a Kingston 512MB SD Ultimate x133, which matches the speed of the Mio. There is an improvement e.g. position on map exact, no lag.
Have a look at the memory cards here http://www.choicestationery.com/index.html |

You say speed match with a x133 card, have you ever actually done a test?
You will find it wont be able to read or write at anywhere near that speed, i have tested the hx4700 read/write speeds and they are very very low.
I only say this as it is false economy to buy fast cards for pda's etc as they are not capable of using these speeds. |

| | Indeed. IIRC very few PDA I've seen can handle more than x40. Those designed and loaded with WM5 that I've seen seem to go a bit further to x80. Although the diff wouldn't be that noticable unless you're creating/writing files that are big. |

| | I checked the Mio 168 specs and it stated the fastest SD Card it takes is x133 ,so I purchased a matching card. Kingston 512MB SD Ultimate x133 Speed Rating - 133x: 23MB/sec. read rate, 20MB/sec. write rate.
The faster read speed does actually make a difference, with a standard card I was getting the final instruction turn left/right just a few yards before the turn. The final instruction now comes maybe 15-20 yards before. I've also noticed that when passing junctions, the icon on screen shws me exactly where I am rather than a bit behind.
Not to mention the installation of the maps via a card reader, much quicker. |
