Default n00b questions!

Im new to pda's, just bought my first basic one a HP Jornada to try out and maybe buy a decent one in the future.

I got mine off ebay with no software and was wondering what o/s would you recomend? Ive noticed theres a few out there and not quite sure what would do for my needs. I basically just want something to syncronise with my pc running windows xp and suse 10 (I use suse more than xp).

ive done abit of reading on the HP, and it mentions ms activesync alot, i presume thats whats used to sync the pc to the pda, where can i get it from? Costs to buy a license i presume?

If anyone can point me to some decent noob guides on pda's and software differences and installations that would be great, alot of the goodling i being doing seem to turn up more results on buying the stuff then offering support!.

Thanks!

Welcome to our forums.

Your Jornada should have come with a version of PocketPC installed. That is the only O/S you can run on it unless your a Windows CE programmer?

You can get Activesync from the Microsoft website (its the first result when you put Activesync into Google) and it doesnt cost you anything.

There are a few places online where you can find guides but its best to Google for whatever it is you want to know specifically and you can then choose from the abundance of sites available.

Thanks Charlie!
I havent recieved the PDA yet so i wasnt 100% sure if there was anything installed on it.

Would it be possible to upgrade the PocketPC o/s? Or should i just make do with whats on it?

I doubt any upgrades will still exist for the Jornada. It's a few years old now. I'd make do.
