| | mio p350 /tom tom problem hope u can help. I have just bought my first pda, a mio p350 with tom tom and am struggling to get it to work. Ive read some of the posts on total pda web site but still baffled. Unit says no gps device , Then says device will be restarted to complete gps configuration. It does this every time I go in to tom tom. These are the settings I know about - Gps port is com 4 hardware port is com2 baud rate is 4800 gps settings ticked to manage automatically beam unticked, ive stopped other programs and no joy. not brilliant on computers so didn’t understand any of the downloading patches and hard resets etc stuff, hopefully it is something simple that I need to do! Any ideas? Any help much appreciated |

| | Try Other NMEA GPS, 4800baud and GPS_COM.
Then go outside and wait, the first time you use it will probably take a while for 'TTFF (Time to first fix). Subsequent fixes will come faster, unless you don't use it for several days, in which case it may have revereted to a 'Cold' start.
Your software will probably be TTN5, go to the TomTom site where you will find a free download to update to TTN5.21.
You may find your Full Postcode search doesn't work, the fix for this is to put an empty folder on your SD card, preferably using a Card Reader, and name the folder tomtom |

| | I am having the same problem with Mio P350 and Tom Tom 5.2.1. The Mio handbook on disc does not even mention GPS capability! Not much on the forums because it is a new device. I get the spinning icon top left, but always "no valid GPS signal" Frustrating. Have you tried contaction Mio? |

Start TomTom - Look to the bottom right of the screen and you'll see 5 varying sized bars - Tap on these.
Now tap anywhere in the large white area to the right of the screen.
Bottom left, Tap on Configure.
Use the arrows to find Other NMEA GPS then Select.
Next page shows GPS Baud Rate. This should be set to 4800. If it isn't, use the slider bar to get 4800. Tap on Done.
Now choose GPS_COM.
Take the unit outside and wait. The spinning circle will be showing which means it's looks for Satellites.
Shortly you should see a number of grey circles along the bottom of the screen and the same number in the circle N E S W.
After a wait you will see grey bars appear alomg the bottom and when you get a fix the bars, together with the corresponding circles in the large N E W S circle, will turn blue.
The first time you will have to wait some time before you get a fix but if used regularly the fixes become much faster. |

| | I have done all this and left it outside for 30 mins, but still no joy, other than the spinning icon? I am beginning to think I might have a duff GPS unit. Is there any way of checking functionality other than with Tom Tom? |

| | Download Winfast Navigator CE from here http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/module...p=getit&lid=15 and the instructions from here http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/module...p=getit&lid=16
Once Installed tap Start, on you Mio350 and look for and tap on Navigator. Tap on Tools, at the bottom then Port Setting. Choose NMEA GPS Protocol - Port GPS_HWCOM COM2:
Set Baud Rate to 4800 then click OK.
Check the blue light, bottom right, is flashing then go outside and wait.
If you leave it on the main screen you will get a 'ping' when you start to get locks.
Tap on View and choose Signal level (the spelling is wrong as it shows Singal), the screen will show various readings including signal level CN for each satellite. You will also see where the satellites are.
Now tap view then Development. Here you should see the info being recieved from the sats.
Once you have your locks and want to leave the program, make sure you choose Tools - Disconnect, then exit the program. If you don't disconnect, the port won't be freed up to be used by TomTom.
Now try TomTom again and see if things have improved. |

| | Thanks for this... but I seem unable to change the default settings of COM 1 and 9600 baud even though under 'settings on the MIO I have Com 2 for hardware and COM 4 for GPS port. I don't appear to have the option to select portsettings on Navigator. If I click on Tools view I get singal(sic!) level and development as options. to the right of tools view is a plug/socket icon which toggles connect/disconnect - next to that is a two curved arrows icon which toggles on click but no result - next is a two bar icon which toggles but no action and lastly an icon which looks like a brush which goes light on click (no toggle) and again no apparent action. If I connect I just get unfixed and the compass icon etc show no satellites. I now know the GPS functionality is OK because it works OK with Memory Map with GPS port 4 and hardware port 2. However, when I loaded Memory Map I did get a warning that this program was designed for an earlier version of Windows mobile and some functions may not display. I notice that the satellite view in Memory map does not display even though it has clearly acquired signals. My version is 5.0 5.1.195 (build 14929.2.2.1). Am I doing something stupid? |

| | Please cancel last message! Having run Memory Map this morning for some time (and having rebooted at some stage), then closed that application, I found I COULD now access the port settings on Navigator. Good display - I presume green means good signal, blue intermediate and red poor. Orange?
Have not yet tried TomTom as I had removed it - will re-install and try again. However - as one cannot run Navigator and TomTom at the same time, I guess run Navigator to assure a sat fix is Ok, then close it and open TomTom. Not sure how it helps TomTom otherwise.
I read on one of the other forums:
TomTom's website: "TomTom NAVIGATOR 5 is currently not compatible with PDAs running the Windows Mobile 5 operating system. As a forerunner of navigation software TomTom is constantly weighing new possibilities for its current and future products. To stay on top of the latest news from TomTom, please sign up for our electronic newsletters under “My Profile” in you’re My TomTom account or alternately check our website frequently
Can you explain the term 'sleeve' in relation to a PDA?
Many thanks.

| That's right, you only need to run it the once, to check everything was OK. You got the locks etc so you should now find TT works fine, if it does, and it should, you can then either leave WinFast Navigator on you Pocket_PC, in case you have problems at a later date and want to check again, or delete it.
You can now forget about WinFast and just use TomTom as normal.
