Default pda for books and navigation

Hello everybody,
I'm planning to buy a PDA but I'm not sure which one to buy. It's primary use is for my study, to put medical books and programs in it. But it would be nice if there was also a navigation (built-in GPS) in it. My question is: Can gps-pda's be used for putting alot of data (books) in it? Or could I better get a normal pda without gps. An other question is: can smartphones also be used for putting data in it, or are they inferior to normal pdas?
I hope someone can help me, excuse me for my english, but im not from the UK.

The PDA's would be able to store your books you would probably need a memory to card to store a lot of data but these are not expensive. There a couple of units with GPS built in like the mitac range.

It would be easy enough to get you one of these with the satnav software and a memory card for your books.
