Default PDA. Pocket PC, Mobile Please help

Hi
I am getting confused! I don't know the difference between a pocket pc and a pda. I dont want satellite navigation. I do want to be able to download stuff from the internet on something with a pretty good amount of hard drive. music, films..but also want something with office ie word etc. I know I need a mobile with bluetooth..as yet still using irda. Can anyone explain to me the difference and as I am on Orange a suitable pda/pocket pc. Of course I shall probably look to Ebay! Many thanks

SillySue!

Pocket PC is generally the term given to a PDA running Windows CE/Mobile edition. Nearly all PDA's will have a version of or compatible Office application - BUT these are only a basic version when compared to the full PC versions.

The Hard drive, is actually memory card (like the ones used in cameras etc).

As for downloading from the net, yes you could BUT it's easier, and better on mem storage to download on a PC, compact these for the PDA, then sync (transfer) these with your PC and PDA. Just as an example a movie wieghs in at 4gb+, yet you can compact for the PDA and get as low as 200mb!

Hope this answers your questions.

All depends on your budget. Sure BT is handy when connecting to a mobile, BUT check your mobile operator's charges (normally something like £1 PER mb). Surfing the web like you do at home could prove very costly!

IMO WiFi is much more usefull, and cheaper!

Where is the quick reply icon please? I have a wireless laptop but it only has irda I think. How would I check to see if it has bluetooth and can this be added? Is this what you meant? I have a wireless network. I am sorry if I sound thick but I really dont know how to set this up. I write notes on the move and want to be able to transfer to laptop/pc. So what does my mobile need? I am on orange. Their browsing is £1 a day unless downloading. Or £4 a month for extended browsing. I want something I can check my emails on surf the web, write small documents on. Dont need sat nav. If you could be direct about exactly whet I will need to cheive this I would be grateful. Also prefer windows latest?? Bluetooth?? Thanks for your help

The quick reply is the icon to the right of quote.

£1 a day browsing unless downloading on an Orange mobile? You're always downloading, even browsing a page you need to download the content. I'm with orange, and have never heard of £1/day. It's £1 per MB. Been there, done it on a PDA and got a shocking bill from looking at just a few pages via my mobile!

If you want to transfer to a PC from a PDA, the you use the (normally) supplied cradle/dock/USB cable. You then use a sync app such as Activesync to sync data between the 2.

If you get a wi-fi enabled PDA, then you can connect to your router and use it at home or any wi-fi location (charges may apply when using outside home).

With the latest Windows Mobile, there is not currently support to connect a PC and PDA together using Bluetooth or WiFi to transfer data.

Hi
On Orange there is an option World1 that you text to surf £1 a day. Downloading according to Orange seems to relate to uploading music, graphics or ringtones etc. I am looking at getting a T Mobile which charges £7.50 for as much surfing as you like...looks like the best bet before I get a PDA. Thanks

Text World1 to 6620 and you get orange world and internet browsing for £1. Check it out on your phone. Cant see it on Orange site. Log onto Orange world and it'll be about the first offer you see.

Ah, must be a trial thing. I've got Orange Access 4 for 4MB a month.

Bear in mind Orange World customises based on handset capabilities, and account options. Hence why my Wife see's a an option to try 30 min 3G free for a month for 3 months, and (as I've already got it), don't.
