Default Cheap replacement PDA for my Sat Nav

Hi
I have an old HP 3970 and the connector is knackered, the battery will hardly charge with USB or car Sat kit so it just dies on me... rather inconvienent when I need it to travel to clients around the UK.

So I would like to replace the PDA with the cheapest I can get which will run my TomTom5. I have an old wired gps receiver which has a serial ? connector, basically a splitter where one goes to the cigarette lighter and the other connector goes to my PDA.
I bought all this off a former colleague and it has lasted me just over a year, sat nav has proved invaluable to me travelling around the UK and I even recently travelled through France with it .
The upshot though is I know little about PDA/Sat nav systems as I just bought a "working" system.

  • PDA needs to support SD card
  • Bluetooth would be nice option I suppose. (If I want to upgrade receiver)
  • A PDA that does not lose the software if the battery does run out (if such PDAs exist)
If I get a version with a good battery life I may start sync'ing with my work calendar etc and use it as a PDA as well.
It is also nice to play Suduko on as well if stuck in hotels

Any suggestions on PDA's please?
(Even on Sat receivers if decent priced ones around, my wired one is rather slow on updating on roundabouts!)

Thanks alot.

Just noticed another thread metioning the ipaqrepair site.
I could get a new battery and the board part of the unit which has the connector unit for £100. I would imagine I would be able to put it together, if I am right in that the connector is knackered ( loose on one side and will not charge with either the USB cradle or the car kit ) then that would theoritically do it.
Would I be throwing good money after bad though, time for a change?

ipaq repair you can also send the device to them. Although this is a chargeable service.

You might find that they don't require any parts, and can simply repair the connector for you. Might be worth sending them an email with your problem, and it could be a common issue that they can simply say "ah yes, you'll need......" or "yup, we could fix that for you....."

I use an Ipaq HX2410 atm, tht supports TomTom 5 and has bluetooth. so with a bluetooth reciever it maybe worth the upgrade as i have never had any problems with it. Its a good solid PDA with a 520MHZ processor so has plenty of power to handle the TomTom. If u want to know out else about the unit just ask
