Mio P550 reset problems

I'm new to this forum and hope some one can help me.
Below is the text of an email I have sent to Mio. Reading up they don't appear to be very forthcoming with replies. While I'm waiting just wondered if anyone on here might have any ideas otherwise it will have to be the 35ppm help line
"I'm having a few problems with my P550.
Machine locked up last week and I had to do a reset bringing it back to factory settings (hold joystick up and reset)
Everything was fine but as I was reloading Microsoft Reader software I got a message saying this adds new fonts and to reset for them to take effect. This I duly did with the usual soft reset but it will not move past the Mio splash screen.
I have tried with the on off switch and the factory reset as well but all to no avail. It just gets to the splash screen and no further.
Please can you help?
We are going away in February half term and are/were looking forward to our 1st proper trip with Tom Tom, Memory May and geocaching software in tow.
