Smile Newbie Needs Help Please!! Mda Compact II

Hi there

I have just bought an MDA Compact II that is unlocked. This is my first PDA/Phone so I am slowly getting used to the various options. BUT one thing I cannot seem to fathom out (and it's prob the easiest!) is how to set up my Vodafone Internet & MMS settings.

Once I've done that, I think I'll then try and get to my AOL e-mail account but one thing at a time!

Is there anyone out there who knows the workings of the MDA Compact who could guide me idiot style please????

Many thanks - looks a good site - am working my way around it!

Hi melmorc,

All you need to do is follow the instructions below. The settings will work for any Windows Mobile 5 handset on Vodafone. You'll need the MMS settings for sending picture and video messages (if your phone supports this,) the WAP settings for accessing mobile internet sites (such as live.vodafone.com) and the Internet settings for any other internet sites. It's probably best to complete all three.

Hope this helps,

Edward

Many thanks - I followed your instructions for the Internet but when I click on
Start --> Internet Explorer and then type in a URL, it says "Connecting to Vodafone .. Connectng to GPRS" but then after about 5 seconds it says "Dialed pp.vodafone.co.uk Cannot connect for an unkown reason. To check your connection settings........". Any advices please?

I then thought I'd try the MMS instructions - got as far as step 5 but I do not get an MMS option - only:

* Text Messages
AOL
POP3
New Account...

Agian any advices????

Could not see the instructions for wap as I think you copied the MMS one twice.

BUT many thanks for your help so far - very easy instructions but I am still a bit stuck! Do you think it will be easier if I go to my local Vodafone store for them to be really helpful and configure for me?

Many thanks

Hi melmorc,

I'm sorry about posting the MMS settings twice! My mistake. Here are the WAP settings:

Setting up WAP
1. Tap Start
2. Tap Settings
3. Tap Connections tab
4. Tap Connections
5. Tap Add a new modem connection
6. At Enter a Name… give the profile a name i.e. Vodafone WAP
7. At Select a Modem tap down arrow and select Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
8. Tap Next
9. At Access point Name: enter:
For Contract - wap.vodafone.co.uk
For PayT - pp.vodafone.co.uk
10. At User name: enter wap
11. At Password: enter wap
12. Tap Finish

As for the error message you're getting, if it's saying "connecting to pp..." then you've got it set up for a Pay As You Talk SIM. If you're actually on a Vodafone monthly contract, you need to replace anywhere you've entered "pp.vodafone.co.uk" with "internet."

Hope this helps,

Many thanks - but still no luck. I'm def on Pay As You Talk so can't understand where it's going wrong?

Do you think it will be easier if I go to my local Vodafone store for them to be really helpful and configure for me?

Hi,

It might help to go to a store so that they can check that you're entering the correct settings in the right place.

If the store can't get this working for you, it would be worth contacting the manufacturere HTC for further support.
