Smile Data Transfer Costs

Hi Guys, I am new round here but after a PDA so I thought I should register…

I’ve had a look on the forum and don’t think this has been covered but please accept my apologies if it has. I am about to buy an HTC Touch Cruise. I want to use the GPS, connect it to my home WiFi, use push mail, make calls and send sms messages as well as open office docs and have an organizer.

It looks like most of the UK phone companies have unlimited data transfer as an addition for about £7.50 a month on contract (I am currently on Orange). I have 2 questions…

1) Do these bolt on’s cover 3G and GPRS usage or do you need different top ups for each..?

2) If I buy a sim free model and pay as I go do I need to buy additional data transfer time or is the data transfer (web browsing mainly) just going to come off my normal monthly top up..?

Am I right in thinking that if 3G coverage is available the phone will always use it and then revert to GPRS usage if there is no 3G coverage or is it more complex than that..?

If anyone can shed any light on this for me I would be most grateful…

Many thanks…

1. the data is the same it just transfers at different speeds.

2.I Dont think the networks let you do bolt ons with pay as you go for data. Normally you would add the data bundle a contract.

3.Correct
