questions about pda/mobile software market distribution channel

I'm curious about how developers distribute their pda softwares in the market. (big players too)

As they don't need CDs for this kind of softwares(CABs) most of them are available for downloading, I know.

What I want to know is that do they distribute thier softwares themselves or they have kind of sole distributorship vendors who plans and controls all of the distributions of the company?

I saw they sell softwares through their own website as well as some software shopping malls. In this case, how do this kind of shopping malls make money? I mean, do these shopping mall get portion of sales amount through their malls, or something else?

Please, anyone knows about these distribution channels, give me some ideas.

I'm not either developer or buyer of pda software (I own i780 though)

I'm studing business and want to learn about software distribution market, especially about mobile software distribution channel system.
