Unhappy Smoking GPS reciever

I have a tomtom bluetooth gps reciever, a 4150 and a seidio mount, all was well till two days ago, I haven't used it much but when I have I have had no problems. I only plug the seidio mount in when I need to power either the pda or the gps as I find the pda speaker loud enough on its own.
Two days ago the battery went flat on the gps so I connected it to the seidio mount using the supplied cable and plugged in the cigarette lighter all seemed as normal at first then I noticed smoke coming from the gps reciever

I unplugged the reciever and the cig lighter.
When I try and turn on the reciever nothing happens, no lights. I also get no lights when I try charge it from either the mains or the car. It looks as if its dead?

Has this happened to anyone else?

My gut feeling is that the seidio mount has developed a fault and sent a wrong voltage to the reciever? Is this possible.
It has worked fine until now. The only problem I have had before has been with the PDA giving me a message when on the mount "battery too hot suspending charging" or something like that.

Any ideas, I've emailed technical support but had no response.
Pressumably I need to return the items for replacement but like I say no response from technical support.

Help please

Sorry mate if it's smoked then it's guaranteed to be dead.
From what you have said RE: "battery too hot suspending charging" it sounds like the input voltage has been a bit high for a while. The battery is designed to be charged at a certain voltage. If you charge at a higher voltage (an old trick to fast charge, but shortens battery life) the battery will heat up further because more current is drawn. I guess either the mount / charger has increased in voltage again or the unit just couldn't cope anymore.

Regards,
Psi
