Unhappy iPAQ 3950 & iPAQ navigation system jacket

I have recently purchased a ipaq navigation system GPS jacket for use with my ipaq 3950. It says manufactured by navman for ipaq. The problem I have is that no matter what I try I cannot get the gps device to be recognised by the ipaq.

When I plug the Ipaq into the jacket it makes a noise and says initialising and then comes up with a message saying “Unrecognised card” and “Enter the name of the device driver for this card. For information, see the card manufactuer’s documentation.” It gives me an option to add a device driver name and I have tried everything I can think of to get the driver from NavMan to work – entered “navman”, “NavMan” the name of the navman driver dll etc…. You can see NavMan’s take on the device here –

http://ems00801.egain.net/system/web...=en&COUNTRY=gb

- they don’t support it. I have spoken with HP support and scoured their website but they told me that they could not help.

I tried instructions from total PDA shown here http://www.totalpda.co.uk/forum/printthread.php?t=4449 but at stage 8 there is no NavMan driver listed for me to select. I checked and the 3.1.6 driver is definitely installed despite the link from step 2 being out of date – I retrieved the serial driver form another location,

Tom Tom 5 reports “no GPS device”. Ie it can’t find a device to even try and get a lock. All other software (like the navman gps tool) gives no such message but nothing happens, I have left the device outside for upwards of 4 hours in varying states and after various attempts at getting the driver to work but nothing ever happens – I don’t even get an indication it is trying to connect

I am sure with the right driver the jacket would work.

Can anyone help, point me in another irection ot does anyone have a working one of these that thy could send over the driver for?

Thanks in advance

C

IIRC the driver is hard coded in the jacket, so could be the jacket is faulty.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you know of any way I can confirm this? Is there a test I can do or some kind of diagnostic tool?

I'd go on the assumption it's faulty. If it's replacement does the same, then it's something on your PDA.

Pretty sure it's a dead jacket though.

I've dealt with quite a few people with dead jackets in the past few months they seem to be going end of life.

Default use an earlier driver

I also have the jacket you refer to and have got mine to work by installing version 3.1.1 of the driver software from navman - a quck google / torrent search will find you the relevant software

3.1.6 does NOT work with the earliest versions of the jacket you have (mine's an early one) I would be VERY surprised if the jacket has failed (unless it has been physically damaged)
