Default CF Adapter

Hello,

I'm new to the forum and sort of new to pdas. I've used a Garmin GPS for some time now and decided that I wanted to add this to my pda. I purchased microsofts streets and trips and it comes with a gps receiver. I also ordered the Pharos adapter to use in my pda's CF slot. I am able to use the gps with my laptop through a usb connection. I have not been able to get the pda to recognize the gps through the CF slot. I'm using Backcountry Navigator software and Microsoft's Pocket streets. Any ideas?

The CF slot is normally COM 1 or 2.

You need to set this in your nav software as well as the correct baud rate stipulated by the GPS manufacturer, then check by sitting outside until you get a GPS lock.

I tried setting it to different com slots. 1 and 2 being part of that. I was sitting outside waiting. Now, maybe I wasn't waiting long enough, but when I asked the software to Locate the receiver is listed a generic receiver. However, when I unplugged the CF adapter and asked the software to locate the receiver it found the same receiver. The receiver was no longer connected. I suspect a problem with the adapter because it also came with the pcmcia card to use with the adapter and it would not work in my laptop either, however, the receiver did work when it was hooked up via a usb cable. Puzzling. I'll try it again and give it much more time to find satellites. I waited about 10 minutes each time; not long enough???

Thanks for the help. I'll try it and see.
