Default Ipaq will not sync anymore

I am using a HP IPAQ RX5700 on a Windows Vista Laptop. I have been successfully syncing my ipaq using windows mobile device centre for the last few months but now it has suddenly stopped working. Everytime I try to sync I get the same error message "ActiveSync encountered a problem on the desktop".

I have read how this is often an issue with Outlook and so I unselected all of my outlook parts (email, contacts etc) and sure enough the device would sync. As soon as I put any outlook program back onto the list of things to sync again I get the error again.

I have tried cancelling the relationship between my laptop and ipaq and then restarting it but this doesnt work either.

This is driving me bananas as I don't understand why this problem has suddenly started!!

I have had this a couple of times but rebooting the PC and the iPAQ resolved the issue without changing any settings.
