Default Ipaq 214 - How do you setup GPS

Apologies if this is in the wrong place but I'm after the 21x gurus

Hello guys,

I'm off to LA/San Fran with my faithful 214 and would appreciate it if anyone could find the time to simply tell me if it's possible to use my 214 as the basis of a navigation device whilst I'm walking/driving about.

I have a tomtom One Could I buy a US map and connect my tomtom by bluetooth to my 214 or do I need special PDA map software?
Do I need to be connected to the internet to make this work ?
On foot if there is a lot of free wifi access in SF/LA, could I use the 'my location' feature in mobile.google maps with a bluetooth gps receiver, If so what do you recommend?
Do you think it would be a good idea to buy another 214 battery?

Regards,
Freyne

You would need software for the 214 as it wont take the maps off your tomtom.

We sell tomtom nav 6 for PDA's

you could also order the US maps from tomtom.

You'd probably be best just getting the maps for your tomtom one using that for navigation when you need to.

We can get you batteries for the PDA as well.

Thanks for your swift reply. So I need this navigator software plus a blutooth gps. Can anyone recommend the Qstarz BT-Q818 or anything else or is there a compatibility list somewhere?

Would I find this software and gps is cheaper in the states as I'm worried what works in the UK might not work in the states

Is a tomtom on its own good enough to use as a pedestrian navigation device if I bought the US map software
? (or will i have to run faster then 30mph!)

The link I posted gets you the software and the bluetooth receiver so you wouldnt need the qstarz.

Dont know about the US prices but it will work over there as long as you have teh maps.

You can tell tomtom to pick pedestrian routes so you can use your one for walking.
