Default Ipaq 6910 GPS

Hi Guys,

I have a real problem with my 6910 which is driving me insane,

I use the GPS with mapping software called memory map for walking which I have used for the past couple of years with no problems at all.

I was given a proper edition of TomTom which I added and worked OK but then I had problems with Memory Map and the onboard GPS it kept closing down the program and logging it off.

So I removed TomTom and did a factory reset but it still doesn't seem to work the same as before and still shuts down Memory Map now and then.

My question is how do I remove all traces of TomTom cause I'm sure this is whats causing me problems.

I so hope someone can help cause its driving me nuts when I'm out walking and have to wait to boot up the software again.

Thankx

You could carry out a factory reset/ restore otherwise known as a hard reset, this puts the PDA in to the same state it was in when you purchased it, you will lose all software and contacts etc so think carefully before doing this.

The main conflict I have seen between Memory Map and TomTom on the same device has been down to how the different software accesses the GPS, Memory Map can (and often by default) will use the GPS receiver in SiRF mode, TomTom only understands data in MNEA mode. Once Memory Map has been set to use NMEA mode it will work fine and co-exist on the same device as the TomTom software.

Another often cause of issues such as this can be leaving the Memory Map application running in the background when you launch the TomTom software, make sure you use the Settings/ Running programs to actually close down one software before running the other and they should both work quite happily when launched on their own.

Whilst it is possible to run two GPS applications on the same device at the same time the built in Windows GPS handler isn't very good, an application called Fransons GPS Gate can be used to share the GPS data feed but you should only need this in the event that you want navigation instructions from the TomTom software whilst viewing your present position on the Memory Map display, this can be done but I don't think this is what your after - Mike
