Default Bluetooth connectivity issues with iPAQ 2210

Can anyone help with my issues? I have an iPAQ 2210 and am trying to connect to the internet via Bluetooth modem using a Sony k700i and a vodafone account. I have read some of your responses to similar similar issues, but I do not seem to get as far as connecting to the phone. I have paired the two together, I can browse from one to the other, I can send images and files between the two, via bluetooth and infrared, but when it comes to connecting to the Internet from the pda, there is a stony silence. The phone does not seek my approval for the connection. I have tried Bluetooth and infrared connections and neither work. Have i missed a trick or is the modem knackared? I have installed the latest bluetooth patch from the HP site. I can't think of anything else, hence this! Any help greatfully accepted1

Welcome to our forums.
Have you got the correct dial settings from Vodaphone?

Thanks for the welcome. Er, not sure what the dial settings are from vodafone. They txt the settings for the data connection to the phone, I guess that I will have to contact vodafone for the dial settings. Thanks I will try that.

I have checked with vodafone, my account is set up with them. I have downloaded and installed the Alice communication system that vodafone offer, when I try to connect the PDA to my phone through that system I get the following error message 'Disconnected, unable to initialize GPRS: the AT command is not supported.' The phone still shows no sign that it is being communicated with. I am convinced that the error is in the bluetooth modem settings, any suggestions?

Afraid not, I've never even heard of Alice (i'm sure there is a joke in there somewhere). Give them a call and tell them what part is causing problems.

Not too sure about this, but the AT command is definatley Modem-connected. I think you are correct in thinking the modem is at fault - it sounds like it could be a configuration issue - does the manufacturer of the modem have a website that has Troubleshooting or Support sections?

Yep been to the modem website, not much support there! Am I correct in setting the phone number on the PDA to *99# and setting the default modem to bluetooth dial up modem? I have paired the phone and the PDA, I seem to be going around in one large circle! I have configured the GPRS and WAP settings on the phone manually, I can get to the vodafone live site and can even use Google on the phone, but I want to be able to send and recieve my pop mail from the PDA and not use the Vodafone live account on the phone .

Hi David, any luck yet with solving your problem? I have a similar issue with my 2210 and Sony S700 on O2. Previously I was using a T610 with Orange and was dialing up a PAYG ISP and had no problem at all - worked everytime. I have changed the paired devices but now I cannot get the phone to dial-up although the ipaq recognises the bluetooth connection the phone does not. If I use the IRDA it connects and dials-up OK!!

I have had the same problem - solved it by using same dial number *99***X# - where X is the CID / APN number in most cases 1 or 2 then add the letter Z to the advance connection setting "Extra dial string modem command". Then it will work a treat!

HTH
