iPAQ 4700 backlight problem

It seems that whenever I leave my HP 4700 off for more than a couple of hours, whether in the cradle or not, the backlight has lost its brightness setting when I switch it back on.

I have to go settings > system > backlight > brightness and slide both sliders back up from the bottom of the scales.

Surely there's a way of setting it so that the backlight turns off after however long but it remembers the brightness levels is was set at?

Haven't seen this problem before. Speak with HP in case it's a fault.
