i am affraid not, this would invalidate the warranty and would not work unless you edit the hex of the rom image. I would contact HP on 08708422339 options 1,3,6 and see what they can advise.

Thanx for the answer. I dont really care about warranty. I contacted hp.com and they told me that it is not possible.

In company where I am working - they have a lot of PDAs (iPAQ3xxx). And it was upgraded from PocketPc 2002 to 2003, so I presumed it is legal and it is possible technically (they definitely didnt edit hex code).

So - is it new thing for 5550 - edit code or may exist already coded ROM images? I mean that hex editing u mentioned - is it because there is some individual device data must be presented or what is it?

Cheers.

P.S. I have found (my friend has) 5550 with normal Windows. I need utility to backup ROM from English one and flash it the German. Can anyone help please ?

We have had to remove this information for the same reasons that HP tell you this is not possible....be cause it is illegal.
Please do not discuss the hacking/modification of any software/firmware.

I would agree if only HP told me - it is illegal. They said - not possible. Now its clear I think. Sorry about that.

What part of license agreement says that by the way?

It's to do with the market the product was intended for use in and related to the import tax class. The iPAQ you bought was had tax applied for the German market and it was licensed for use there. Changning the ROM/language would mean it can be used/sold in a market it was not intended for.

It's a bit confusing but the bottom line is we are not alowed to discuss such information.

Sorry.
