Default Hard reset vs ActiveSync

Is there a way to delete previous identification (names) of an iPAQ 2210 when plugging-in after a hard reset? I'm running out of ideas for names and after each reset the backup for a previously named machine is unavailable.

Yes, with your PDA disconnected from the PC click on FILE in Activesync then come down to MOBILE DEVICE and select the partnership you wish to delete and select DELETE PARTNERSHIP from the FILE menu. Repeat the process if there are more than one to be removed.

Thanks, but when trying to use a previous backup to the PC, how is the named partnership, under which the backup was generated, selected?

Would deleting the partnership and then using that name again allow access to the associated backup?

I'm not sure I understand what it is you are trying to do.

Let's say I backup the PDA to the PC through ActiveSync while in a partnership called 'Pocket_PC'. Then for some reason I have to do a hard reset. It's at this point that I find that ActiveSync will not recognise 'Pocket_PC' as a partnership name so how can the backup previously created under that name be used?

It sounds like I've got the same problem. For some reason RX 3715 did a hard reset on its own. I've tried various partnerships including guest and cannot restore my last back up.

Does this sound familiar?

I'm inclined to think that IF, and that's a big if, I was again in the position of wanting to do a hard reset, and I had followed the directions to delete all partnerships before connecting the PDA, I would expect the new partnership generated to be the same name as that used to store the backup. This would be true if all the however many partnerships other than the basic (on mine it is 'Pocket_PC') had been deleted.
Anyway, providing you can find the backup file on your PC (the path's a bit of a maze) I don't see why it cannot be copied or renamed to match whatever name corresponds to the current partnership name.

Must be a better way to phrase all that!

To restore a backup file from a previous parnership you should just need to connect as a guest. If you have problems doing it that way it may be because you have changed the region settings on the PDA. If you made a backup of the PDA set to UK region then you will need to set the PDA back to UK region after the hard reset and before your perform the restore.

SIMPLE SOLUTION:
this worked for me...
(1) my hx2410 did a hard reset by itself....bugger...
(2) Make a copy of your POCKET_PC My Documents folder.
(3) In active sync click File>device (choose profile you were using before)
- then File>delete profile
(4) Change Regional settings on your PDA (settings>system>regional settings) to be the same country that you had before (New Zealand for me....)
(5) put PDA in cradle and stop active sync from syncronising. then click tools>backup/restore
(6) Clcik browse next to backup folder....navigate to your backup file (i save mine in a different place to the default to make things easier). when you click on the file it asks if you want to replace the file....clicking ok will not delete the file, but to be on the safe side make a copy of your backup before you do this!!
(7) click on restore tab and click restore and you should bea way laughing!

hope this helps....nothing more frustrating than having to set everything back up again :P
