Default HP 6515 - don't bother.

Got it, finaly. Most disappointed.

You can only get 1 small (like 3sq miles of London) with it for free. The Tomtom Plus service does not work with it, and costs £9.99 per map - and there is no way of finding what area each map covers without purchasing it. ( I chose London as my "free" map, only to find it is in fact Central London, or about 1 mile radius from Charring Cross).

You then need to pay £199.00 for the rest of europe. Have spoken to both Tomtom and HP, this product will not accept the €59.00 TT5 map upgrade.

You will also need to buy an SD card to put it all on. So to get full Tomtom functionality, there will be an aditional cost of about £250.00 over the purchase price.

and the GPS only picks up 3-5 sats at a time.

And using the mobile phone, (in London, so should expect reasonable coverage) with BT to my car kit, the battery only lasts 4 hours (with the screen off).

Any one got any ideas as to my options ???????

You absolutely can find out what area each map covers. You have the opportunity to put in various towns (including areas of a city such as London) and it will tell you what map that they are on.

It's also worth pointing out that if you look at any detailed specifications for the device it is clear that you are only getting what is essentially a trial of the software.

Firstly the standard price is 199 Euros, not 199 Pounds. Then, when you downloaded your trial map, it gave you a discount code. This gives you 35% off of the entire Western Europe Map set.

So, this makes the price 129 euros, which is about 80 pounds, not 199!

Personally I think that it is a pain that you have to buy the whole of Western Europe - I would have preferred to pay maybe half that for just the UK.

Sounds like your device must be faulty. Satellite pick up is fantastic on my one. It will happily just sit on the passenger seat and get full lock. With regard to battery life, again there must be something wrong with your machine, or something that you are connecting to it because mine is fine, and is probably twice or maybe three times better than my previous XDA. It is much the same as an other area though, if you are switching to using a pda as your mobile from a contemporary mobile phone, you will find the battery life is generally much less.

When I selected London as a map, I was expecting a full map of London, not just the centre....maybe my expectations were too high, but to me London means all of London, not just the centre. How do you find out what areas it covers without purchase ? I have also got the "hertford" map, which goes down to street level in Wembly and Hendon......

You are correct about the price, however, the retailer (not www.totalpda.co.uk) I got the Ipaq from sold it with "full Tomtom sat-nav". Again, my undestanding here would include the maps, as this is an integral part of sat-nav.

I am in the process of returning the Ipaq to HP for them to swap it out under warrenty... hopefully this will cure the battery /GPS issues.

Can the full version on TT Navigatior 5 be transferred from one machine to another easily, as I assume they will replace rather than repair ?
