( I chose London as my "free" map, only to find it is in fact Central London, or about 1 mile radius from Charring Cross). |
You absolutely can find out what area each map covers. You have the opportunity to put in various towns (including areas of a city such as London) and it will tell you what map that they are on.
It's also worth pointing out that if you look at any detailed specifications for the device it is clear that you are only getting what is essentially a trial of the software.

Firstly the standard price is 199 Euros, not 199 Pounds. Then, when you downloaded your trial map, it gave you a discount code. This gives you 35% off of the entire Western Europe Map set.
So, this makes the price 129 euros, which is about 80 pounds, not 199!
Personally I think that it is a pain that you have to buy the whole of Western Europe - I would have preferred to pay maybe half that for just the UK.

Sounds like your device must be faulty. Satellite pick up is fantastic on my one. It will happily just sit on the passenger seat and get full lock. With regard to battery life, again there must be something wrong with your machine, or something that you are connecting to it because mine is fine, and is probably twice or maybe three times better than my previous XDA. It is much the same as an other area though, if you are switching to using a pda as your mobile from a contemporary mobile phone, you will find the battery life is generally much less.
