Default HP Hx4700 and TomTom 5

Hi All,

Does anyone know or can perhaps suggest a reason why, when runing TmTom navigator 5, the iPaq locks up? I still get verbal messages from the navigator to turn left etc. but the visual display just locks and stops moving. I cannot do anything from the touch screen or stop TomTom and have to do a soft reset. This usually happens about an hour into a run so on long journeys it's a real pain, as I also have to reset destination and preferences after the reset.

Just a note that I usually stop any other programmes running including the calendar coming on in auto mode, so nothing should be running that can conflict with the TomTom programme.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

I seem to have cured the system lock ups myself by uninstalling TomTom and reinstalling from the TomTom SD card. Ran it for a while the other day with no problems, I think in the process I removed the latest update I had downloaded from the TomTom web site so perhaps that was the problem?

I have heard tales that the TT 5.1 PPC update causes more problems than it solved in many pda's

Hi bobonacus,

I may have spoken too soon had another lock up that required pulling over to reboot the 4700. Perhaps I will need to try and reinstall the update Tom Tom doesn't seem very stable on long journeys running on the Hx4700? This time it just turned off. Any advie to improve things would be gratefully recieved.

You might also want to check what applications you are running in the background as they could be eating away at your memory, clickon the bottom right button (itask to display a list of them).

Cool Need Help In Selection

Soundman

You seem to have hit some problems and I am considering buying a HP iPAQ 4700 with Tom Tom Nav 5.

Its expensive if it does not work properly. What should I do?

Regards

Hi Soundman,
I would tend to forget about the ipaq4700, I have just sold and RZ1710 and this was much superior than the 4700 for TT5, I have got similar problems, the scren freezes, get memory low messages to stop other programs running for all there are no other programs running in the background. it is a real pain, if you want it for other than TT5, it is great though.

Hi
I have the hx4700 and tomtom 5.21, everything runs like a dream, isuppose its the 5.21 update thats sorted the problems out. I also had mp3's playong with pocket music minimised and running tomtom at the same time with no problems, i use a fm transmitter in the car to play everything through the radio speakers.

I have not had any lockups or any problems at all. And yes the 4700 is ace, great screen etc etc

Unhappy iPAQ 4705 and Tom Tom

Hi
I have two hp 4705's and I have been given Tomtom 5, but I cannot get it to work on either. You click on the start file, it tries to start and then goes back to the explorer screen. Can any one help on this?
