Default Is there an IPAQ that doesn't lose data when battery flattens?

As the frustrated owner of an HP5450 I am becoming increasing frustrated at the loss of data each time the battery inadvertantly flattens itself (battery dying so this happens more and more). I am therefore looking to replace it with a newer model if I can find the right one.

Do any of the new breed if HP devices have non volatile memory that prevents loss of data if battery runns out on a long trip?

Am prepared to settle for a lowe spec of device - all I really ever run is calendar, address book and tomtom so doesn't need to be hugely powerful.

Your help would be appreciated.

Well, most new HP IPAQ PDAs have something called IPAQ File Store that, as far as I know, will keep data stored on it. BUT! Soon new PDAs will come with Windows Mobile 5 operativsystem - and PDAs that comes with this OS will not loose data when battery is empty! I dont know which PDA-brands that has come where you are located, but we've allready sold a lot of i-mate PDAs - that is HTC produced PDAs - same as Qtek, XDA, etc. I would recommend to buy a PDA with Windows Mobile 5! And..HP have announced that they will come with an upgrade for HP IPAQ hx2000-series, and hx4700 if I dont remember wrong. HP IPAQ hx 2110 is the "cheapes" model of these, lacks WLAN/Phone, otherwise suitable for your needs.

another slightly differnt option would be to just create a backup (from the settings menu) onto the sd card which only takes a few seconds then you can restore in a few seconds when the battery is charged.

I've just had the same thing happen to my iPaq 2200, it's been flawless since I've had it (over 3 years old I think) and unfortunately I let the battery die last week.

No problem I thought, I'll just restore using the active sync backup which is on my laptop .. hahahaha what a joke, active sync wouldn't recognise the file. To say I was annoyed is an understatement!

I've now got to install all my apps again which I'm almost thinking, is it really worth it?

Its never advisable to use activesync backup, too many people have this problem. I have always used either the built in pda backup program when i had wm2003 and now i use spb backup as im using wm5.

Sprite backup is also another good program, both work very very well, just backup to a card and when you need to just restore from the card. Also copy the backup file to the PC too to make sure, but never backup or restore via activesync.
