| | HP Jornada 720 I've had my 720 for a while now, with no major problems. Happily synching to both my work and my home PC. then today, I went to access a file in my "Synchronised Files" folder and it wasn't there. LOTS of them weren't there! I have a poor memory (hence the need for an HP) so I can't say for sure what is missing or when I last saw it, but I use some of my HP info daily, some weekly, some less frequently. I'm sure I used the file in question only 2/3 weeks ago max.
But what REALLY worries me now is what will happen if I synch with my home PC. if the missing files are there, will synchronisation delete them or restore them? how does Activesync 3.5 recognise whether to add or delete?
And if anyone has ANY idea where the missing files went, I'd love to hear. (and No, I don't think I deleted them, in a moment of carelessness!!)
Merry Christmas to you all |

Merry Christmas to you all | An update for you. I did synch at home and "lost" loads of files. But I'd taken copies, so was able to restore them all manually. And now I do seem to recall a message at work a few days ago about Activesync needing to sync 600 odd files. I didn't pay it sufficient attention at the time, but that probably explains WHEN files were deleted and HOW but not WHY? Can anyone pls explain the rules Activesync uses, especially as regards telling the difference between a file that has been deleted from one machine or added to the other. How does it know!!
I'm happy now as I have (most of) my files back, but I 'd still love an answer to the question. It's ruining my Christmas. |

I'm happy now as I have (most of) my files back, but I 'd still love an answer to the question. It's ruining my Christmas. | Charlie, I need your expert HELP!! It's done it again. I've gone to sync with my home PC this time and it tells me that 689 calendar items and over 1000 files need attention, as they have not previously synched with this computer. But that's crazy. I synch 2 or 3 times a week at home and daily at work. the exact sequence of events is as follows:
am running Win 2000 at home. I put my HP into the cradle, connected to the PC by USB cable and Activesync 3.7.1. for both calendar and files, it gives me the option to either combine items on my device with items on the pc or replace them with items on the PC. I choose the option to do neither both times. (Strangely, contacts and Inbox both synch fine). Now, when I click "Resolve", I get the message "Items of one or more information types cannnot be synchronised. disconnect and reconnect your device. To view all error messages and dialog boxes that require your input, you must connect to this computer via Infr-red or serial/USB cable". But that's what I AM doing. Activesync is correctly recognising the right partnership. I'm at a loss, what to do next. Charlie, you've always had the solution in the past. I'm counting on you to have the answer this time, dude. |

| | As you're sync'ing form 2 computers, you need to change the sync rules on how it handles things when files are missing.
I'm assuming you take from work, onto PDA, then load at home to work on?
Really need to know which PC is used for what and, how you're dealing with files so we can tell you how to config active sync on each machine. |

My work PC runs XP Pro and I only sync files - word & excel. At home, I run Win 2000 and I sync files, calendar and contacts. And yes, you guess right. I do work stuff at home.
I have a Word document that lists all the conversion settings, between work PC & HP (both ways) and home PC & HP (Both ways), which I'm happy to send you, but why do I see this problem only rarely? (Twice in 2 years, I guess).
pls advise |

pls advise | Well, guys. I'm back. I upgraded to ActiveSync 3.8 and it seems to work fine. not really different to the previous version, as far as I can see. then today, I went to sync at home. ActiveSync recognised my HP, synchronised calendar and contacts, but threw up a message that "Files" had not previously been synched with this PC, did I want to merge them or replace one or other set. What??? FWIW, I had a problem with my BT Broadband, which the integral help feature identified as changed settings, which it then fixed. Now, I don't think I changed any broadband settings, so I'd put it down as one of those weird things that happen from time to time. But now I'm wondering if such a change of settings could cause ActiveSync to not fully recognise my HP and think that the files had not previously been synched? To "fix" the problem, I moved my synchronised folder to a safe place and synched again, successfully this time. I'm 99% sure the most up to date versions were on my HP, so I PROBABLY have not lost anything but, can anyone suggest what is going on and how I can prevent it? Fingers crossed you clever guys can com eup with something | |
