Unhappy Ipaq 2210 - Won't Synch

I have a 2210 which was hard reset on Thursday.

Since then I have not been able to get either my office PC (which it was synched with) or our home PC with a fresh installation of active synch (from the disc which came with the PDA.

When I restore the backup (from SD card) it locks at the end of the soft reset and needs a futher hard reset to get it gong again. After a hard reset it works fine except it will not synch.

My sons/colleages 2210s synch using my cradle and PC and my PDA is not seen in their cradles.

Does this mean a relacement cradle socket for the PDA - it is just out of warranty and has not been bumped recently.

If it does not work on three cradles it may be a fault with the base socket in the 2210 i.e. the one the cradle plugs into.

Take a look at http://www.ipaqrepair.co.uk/view_pro...hp?product=308 and see if this looks familiar to you.

I've just had to send my 2210 in for the SD socket to be repaired.

I'm having the same problem after buying a used 2210 - the charges via the cradle but doesn't sync with the PC. I've tried a USB cable too. Is this likely a broken socket as well?

Chrig, It could be but check your activsync installation first and be sure it is connected. Then check to see what you want to sysnc, i.e. the list of items to sysnc like e-mail, files, address book etc. I set mine to manual sysnc as well.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the advice but the connection wizard won't can't even find the PDA - says "USB is available" but it can't connect. I found a troubleshooting page about it but couldn't resolve it.

chrig
Has it ever connected via the USB?.
Have you managed to create a 'partnership' between the PDA and PC?
At what stage do you get the error message?

No, it's never managed a USB connection Mike, haven't had it working yet and was going to send it back. The message is in the connection wizard for ActiveSync which is covered on the following page:

It sounds more like a conflict on your PC than a fault with the PDA. This sometimes happens to mine after it has been left in the cradle and left idle. I have to re boot to clear the fault.
However if you have tried the solution given on the microsoft site I'm not sure what else you can do, except find someone else to try uninstalling ActiveSync and re installing again etc. Might be worth finding a 'PC Doctor' in your local yellow pages.
Also I think that Active Sync is upto v3.8 now, it might be worth trying to update first to see if that installs the correct driver, but I suspect not.
Let us know how you get on.
Mike

Thanks Mike, I'm new to PDA's but know my way around a PC pretty well. I've checked there's no driver conflicts, got the latest version of ActiveSync and also tried it on another PC. Also tried a cold reset but nothing's worked

If you have tried it on another PC and can't get a connection that points to a faulty hot shoe.
If you bought it from a reputable dealer they may fix it under some form of Guarantee. Failing that I can recommend iPAQ repair & parts who have just repwired my 2210 SD/CF Socket.

or to be more specific:

Hope you get it fixed.
