Default iPAQ 4700 light sensitivity

When a (rare at present) beam of sunlight falls on my iPAQ's screen, the backlight turns off. It can be turned back on instantly by angling the screen so it's not in direct sunlight any more. This never happens when indoors out of direct sunlight, or outdoors on a cloudy day.

It's quite a nuisance, as I often use the (otherwise excellent) PDA out of doors. It occurs when I'm using it for navigation in the car, when charging, and in any other circumstances (but always when sunlight falls on the screen).

Any suggestions on how to cure this behaviour, or possible causes?

No replies - still not solved entirely, but can be fixed by covering up the IRda port - why should this happen?

Programs, Settings, System settings, Backlight.

Simply un-check the automatic brightness level on the brightness tab.
