Brand New 2490 + TomTom 5

I've just today received a New Ipaq 2490 and TomTom 5 Navigator package.

I followed the instructions in the manual - inserted the SD Card into the slot, TomTom looked like it was loading, the screen went back to the Windows Mobile 5 screen. I had a look in the programs menu and the TomTom icon didnt appear. I opened the SD Card and tried to run the TomTom Start cmd and it looks like its loading and then stops - same problem. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Also - I installed ActiveSync 4.1 on my laptop and tried to synch the device, its not detected on the USB port. I uninstalled and installed v3.8 thinking it was a problem with the software, same problem. I do have another PC to try this on and will try it tomorrow but I had no problem synching my old MIO 168. Any help would be appreciated as this is rather annoying.

Welcome to our forums.
Browse the 2577 folder on the SD card and run each of the programs there one after the other and it will install for you.

Not sure about your USB problem...got all your windows updates installed?

Same here. I contacted TomTom by phone and they helped. You need to download a patch to enable TomTom to work with Windows Mobile 5.

Please follow the instructions and you should not have a problem.

Option 1 The update


1) Soft reset the PDA (press the small hole on the base of the unit with the stylus pen).

2) Inset the tomtom memory card into the top of the PDA with the writing towards you.

3) Connect your PDA to your PC.

4) On your PC open up your internet browser and navigate to www.tomtom.com click on support, PDA navigation, TomTom 5, updates, manuals, select update 5.xx.

5) Download the files

6) Save it to your desktop

7) Double click and it will install the update which is required for WM5.

Option 2 Direct from SD


1) Browse the memory card using file explorer, file explorer is located under the programs menu

2) Browse the SD card for the folder called 2577

3) You will see 3 .cab files, click on these to manually install each part of tomtom.

yep,had same problem with with Ipaq 2190,problem sloved with option 2.dont forget to add ur Speed camera POI from the website. Also found i cannot get 'car parking' POI i.e. multi car park or pay & park come up,waiting for reply on tom tom forum
