Default 3970 Update Problem

I am trying to update my 3970 using Windows Mobile 2005 and Active Sync 4, but as soon as it starts updating the connection to the PC is lost and it says there is a problem and I should restart the Ipaq and start again, but it just does the same thing again. It does it at the stage where it says "deleting existing files on Ipaq".

Anyone got any ideas?

Make sure the USB lead is connected to a USB 2 port, and directly to the PC. Connecting via a USB hub can cause timeout issues similar to what you describe.

Does Windows report any errors?
Have you ever used active sync with the device, or is this the first time you've hooked it up? Trying to gauge if it's a hardware fault

I use active sync regularly and have just checked version 4.
The only reported errors are that there has been a problem and I need to restart my Ipaq remove my USB and then put the USb back in and the Ipaq in the cradle, then start process again.
When I start again active sync connects (as it should), but as soon as it starts to run the installation process the active sync connection is lost and I get the reported error.
When I transfer large files though through active sync there is no problem.

When you say v4, is it 4.0 or 4.1? If 4.0, try version 4.1.

I had similar probs with 4.0, but 4.1 seems fine.

Got 4.1 and it still does the same. Connected via com 1 instead and it did the same, so it is not a USB issue.

Try going back to v3.8. Does the issue still happen?

Have you updated the software/ROM on your 3970 recently?

No I have not updated software lately and version 3.8 does the same - just switching off avtivesync at the beginning of update and as soon as I exit update after the error message it connects straight up again
