Default Activesync 3.8 Problem

I had my iPAQ working wonderfully when I had a hardware problem and it was replaced by HP. I have reinstalled all the software, but can't get MS Money to work properly.

When I put the old iPAQ in (I haven't sent it back yet and it works enough for testing) I can sync MS Money happily. If I put the new iPAQ in, the 'settings' option in activesync disappears and it won't sync the data file. I have deleted the old partnership, uninstalled activesync, uninstalled MS Money, rebooted everything and done a complete reinstall, but exactly the same thing happens every time.

The only conclusion I can come to is that somewhere the serial number is recorded so that you can't sync money files with more than one device. However, I can't find it and it doesn't seem to go away once you have uninstalled it.

I have trawled through the PC registry on my XP machine, but without knowing what I am looking for, or where, it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.

As an aside, replacing an iPAQ when it has broken it absolutely appauling; most of the software has security on it to prevent it being copied. If you simply restore a backup most of the software doesn't work properly, and the only option is to reinstall, having to set everything up from scratch which takes days!

One day a bright manufacturer will put all the brains of the device on a removable module, and allow you to purchase new cases to put it in. Apart from being easy to replace once the screen or connectors were damaged, they could market different styles, colours etc like phone covers. Quite by accident, it might also be useful...
