Default IPaq 2790 turning on by itself

HI all,

since installing tom tom 5 and its updates I have found that my PDA will turn itself on, on its own.

I first thought it was because it was in my coat pocket and I was accidently hitting the buttons and turning it on, but when I left the pda on my desk within 10-15 minutes it had turned itself on and started tom tom.

This activated the blue tooth so the battery started to drain even faster.

a number of times now I have charged my PDA then taken it to work, leaving it in my coat pocket only to find out that same evening that the battery is totally flat and I need to charge it again.
I really dont want to lose Tom Tom as I use it a lot and its one of the main uses for the PDA.

Please help !!

Peter

Does it always start tomtom or just turn on at random?
Use file explorer on the pda and browse to you memory card.
Change the name of the 2577 folder to 2577x
you might want to check your mem card is seated correctly.

If its not always tomtom that starts try this as well.
go to Program>ActiveSync>Menu>Add Server Source
>under Edit Server Setting put 1.1.1.1. as Server address, tap Next (bottom right)
youl'll get three boxes to fill : Username, Password, Domain. fill in xxx in all, tap Next, then, tap Finish
Now, to remove the fake server:
go to Program>ActiveSync>Menu>Option
highlight Exchange Server, tap Delete, you'll get a Warning message asking "would you like to continue?" tap Yes.

you are done. all the best and Good Luck!!

Hi there hartrockets

I have just purchased a 2790 as well and I was also getting the same problem as you. I traced it back to the fact that the HP protect tools were activated, once I turned them off the PDA stopped turning itself on.
About a week later I turned back on HP protect tools and the PDA then seemed to work okay after that. But I don't think it was coincidence that as soon as I turned them off the PDA functioned correctly without switching itself on.
I have now turned off HP protect tools as I have found the doftware very flaky. The fingerprint scanner would never work properly all of the time as it would not read my fingerprint causing me to reset the device every 4th or 5th time I used it! It would invariably lock the machine when rebooting as well.

Hi Howard, thanks for the tips, I will give it a try.

the PDA is still either turning itself on, or I have a bad battery, it was totally flat again last night so was charged up, and even though I have not used it, I checked the battery level just now and found it to be at just 61%.

I use my 2790 every day so it doesnt actually get a chance to go flat. If turning off HP protect tools doesnt work you can always go to the HP web site and somewhere on that page you can actually chat to a technician in real time explaining what the problem is. There is also a facility to check your PDA online via active synch, to make sure it is working correctly.
