Smile Media Player on my hw6915

Hi

I want to delete a load of music files from my windows media player library. Is there a way I can select them all instead of having to delete them one by one?

Another question - when I drop mp3 files into my synchronisation folder on my host pc desktop why does it take so long for them to copy to that folder? By long I mean twenty minutes for one mp3 file! Has it anything to do with the fact that it says it's converting the file format? Is this odd behaviour?

My last question - an HP tech support person told me it was easier just to place my music files on the SD card and put the SD card back in the iPAQ. But when I did this none of the tracks would play (hence why I'm now trying to delete them all). Does anyone know why they wouldn't play?

I've just thought of another question - Is there a way I can 'close' a programme using my keypad rather than getting the stylus out to hit the X in the top right hand corner of the window?
Thanks!

Are the DMA protected (ie purchased), or did you rip them from a CD?

As for deleting multiple items, you click on one file, keep the stylus on the screen, then simply drag the stylus down selecting all the files you want. Keep the sylus held for a few secs, and the sub menu will appear with the delete option. WARNING make sure there is noting improtant selected before opting to delete!

Not sure why you couldn't get it to play from SD card. What OS is on the ipaq, and what version of active sync?

Personally, I simply load to an Sd card, or drop in the sync folder in my docs on my PC (obv the one for music within this). Mine is C:/..../my docs/ipaq/mydocs/music The ipaq folder being the sync'd folder for the pda.

Hi

Thanks for replying. I purchased them from the Internet. I've tried deleting the files from windows media player library like you suggest but nothing happens when I drag the stylus. Perhaps I need to locate the files from within file explorer? Would you happen to know where I should start looking?

I have Windows Mobile 5 and ActiveSync 4.2

Do yo have any thoughts on why dragging and dropping the files into my sync folder takes so long? Do the file usually convert to another format during the process?

The shouldn't do.

I simply drop mine into my sync folder, and they sit there until the device is connected again. Transfer isn't lightning fast, but an average mp3 file (say 4mb) takes only a minute or 2.

Pretty sure WM5 and WM10/11 talk to each other, so your PDA gets the music direct from your PC by default.

If you purchased from the net, and they came in mp3 format, then chances are it's the DMA preventing playback. If you got from napster, connect the PDA and add it as an authorised device. They allow 3 mobile devices, and your PC. I've got my Nokia, iPaq and my mp3 player set as authorised devices.

Are the files your talking about in .wma format? I noticed similar problems with that.

If you have a card reader your quicker transfering the files using that.

There should be options in windows media on your pc to delete the music files as well. Windows media show show your music files when you connect your pda to the PC.

Hello Martin

My files aren't wma format; they're mp3. Is this why when I open windows media player on my iPAQ the tracks don't appear in my library? Is there an easier way to play mp3 files than trawling through file explorer on the hw6915?

You say use my card reader (which I have) but when I did that none of the tracks would play in media player. The tech support helpline chappie told me the correct way to get music files on to my iPAQ was to use the sync folder.

How big are the files?

there are really only 2 possibilities left. The files are either very high quality, and as such large so the PDA has insufficient mem to be able to open them.

or

It's DMA copy protection. Can you copy the files to another device (ie mp3 player/mobile phone) and will they play?

Hi
The files are about 4mb each and I have four of them.

Where do the files need to be stored in order that media player can find them? I've no idea where they go when I putthem in the sync folder on my desktop. Would media player find them if I put them on to my sd card?
