RX3715 not getting internet access but able to sync via Activesync Hi folks. I really hope you can help with this problem as I've not seen it
described on this forum.
I have a HP iPAQ RX3715 which runs WM2003SE. I'm connecting the PPC to my
desktop using Activesync 4.1. I also use my USR 5451 wireless access point to
connect to the internet. My desktop runs XP Pro SP2.
I'm able to sync my PPC with my desktop without any problem via Activesync. But
I'm having problems connecting to the internet using either Activesync or my
access point. I'm able to connect to my access point. My PPC is obtaining a MAC
address and is showing up as a client in my access point's status page with
accurate time-stamps for when the PPC connects/disconnects but when I try to
use Internet Explorer to view a web page I get a "the page you are looking for
cannot be found" error. I've been trialing a RSS reader which does not update
via Wi-Fi or Activesync. I get the same problem with SPB Weather.
Here's what I've tried after reading some of the threads posted here:
I've checked Activesync's connection settings and the computer is set to connect
via the Automatic setting. I've tried changing this to Work Network and The
Internet.
I have also disabled my McAfee firewall software (XP's firewall is always set to
off).
In the Configure Wireless Networks page my PPC is listed as connected to my
wireless network. I'm not using MAC filtering on my wireless access point (USR
5451).
I have disabled encryption on my access point and on the PPC.
I tried upgrading Activesync to v4.5.
I have made sure that my Network Settings don't have a http proxy set, although
curiously the address 217.40.70.2:8080 appears periodically in the http proxy
box. Interestingly my WORK network is now named WORK2. I can't rename this back
to WORK as I get an error saying that "Connection settings already exist with
that name". I'm thinking that this might be significant but I don't know how to
remedy it.
One thing has really got me scratching my head though. I installed another Today
weather plugin to test whether the internet access problems might have been due
to the applications themselves. The new weather program (SBSH Weather 1.3.6) is
able to download weather updates from the internet. There is a setting in the
Connect page for SBSH Weather - "Use old http method" which is to be enabled if
there are problems updating via an authenticated proxy. If this is set then I
can update SBSH Weather but no other apps have internet access. If I uncheck
this setting than SBSH Weather can't update. It seems like this is the solution
to the problem but I don't know how to enable this setting globally i.e. for all
apps that need internet access. If anyone knows how to fix this please give me a
clue.
Thanks for reading all this. |
