Default HP IPAQ 214 - Tomtom Bluetooth GPS connection issues

OK chaps,

I'm still using my HX4700 as I'm still struggling to migrate to the HP 214.

My current issue is with the tomtom bluetooth gps device.

Problem 1 - auto connect.
I've setup in bluetooth manager a connection to the tomtom gps device, I entered the pin and all seems well. However it does not auto connect when I turn the bluetooth device on, I have to go to blue tooth manager and hit "connect"

Problem 2 - data transfer.
When the GPS device is connected it seems to be connected fine, but no data is ever sent/recived between the gps device and the IPAQ, so even though it's connected it's not actually talking.

I've read some notes about specifying bluetooth ports, but I'm the first to admit I've not done this as I've no idea what I'm setting up or how to do it.

Reading up on this it does appear to be an issue with the ports assigned.

1.) I've re-tested the GPS device with the HP HX4700 - no problem works fine (with tom tom 6 too)
2.) when I first click "connect" (still can't get it to auto connect) the status changes from "no gps device" to "no valid GPS signal" so it does appear to have paired ok with the device.
3.) on inspection there is no data flowing between the device (which there is on the HX4700)

I'd be very interested if anyone/www.totalpda.co.uk (who have this working) could explain if they managed to get their dongles to auto connect, and what configuration they use to get the dongles working.

thanks

Best thing to do would be to go to bluetooth settings and delete the pairing and starting again.

I use a different a receiver but from memory I did this.

Select add new device and it should discover the tomtom receiver. Enter the password and finish the setup tick the box for serial connections.

Tap the tab for com port and select new outgoing port. Select the pairing for the tomtom receiver then set the com port. I've used com 0 for mine.

Start tomtom and go to the gps status menu. Press configure then select tomtom bluetooth GPS from the options. It should go back to the status screen and the blue and yellow circle at the top right should be spinning if the gps is connected. It should then start picking up satelites.

If that it doesnt do either of those you could try selecting other bluetooth gps instead in the configure menu. Select baud rate 4800 and selct com 0 as the port. Again it should go back to the GPS status screen to show the connection.

Do you have the latest update for tomtom 6?
It should be version 6.03 to work with your PDA.

Ok, done that, it finds "Tom Tom Wirless GPS device"

Doesn't ask me for a pass pairing, just has a tick box for "Authentication" and then a sub menu of "encyption" With either/both of these ticked it fails to connect.

If I remove the tick box, it connects.

I can't see this tab at all, I'm in the bluetooth connection manager is this where I should be ?

I can't progress with your other advice until I've finished this section.

If you press Start - Setting

Then the connection tab at the bottom.

Select bluetooth then Com ports should be one of the tabs at the bottom.
