Question Navman 510 preferences

Hi does anyone have experience with setting up 510 so that the preferences for routing is A roads and Motorways ie; Route=shortest or quickest/ Urban roads=prefer or not/motorways =prefer or not.Navman helpline were no help whatsoever just told me to try combination of settings.
Tried a known journey which is possible all the way using 'A' roads in 1 1/2hrs but navman used all 'B' roads and took 2 1/4 hrs,not the best of journeys needless to say I came home using my own route.Regards anyone

I have had a similar problem with the 510 taking me some "offroad" routes. I have my 510 set to "Route type" farthest left....."Preference for motorways" 2nd from the right....."Preference for Urban roads" second left. Frankly I have found that putting the unit on when I have travelled a reasonable distance (eg started around the M25) that it picks up a more sane route.

It also has a few qwerks like taking me off the M1 into the service station and then back onto the motorway and carrying on. We also have a main road near us in W Sussex, that I travel frequently, that comes to an abrubt hault then carries on 500 yds further ...according to the 510. Thus the unit will not plan a route via this road. I assume this is the map supplier rather than Navman ?
