| | Mio 201 - and gps software I received my 201 on 16th december, I already had tom tom 5 europe software on cd, I was using this on the 168. On installation Tom Tom software would not work and on contacting global poitioning systems they told me there was NO compatible gps software ! the following day they emaild me a link to 2 update files on Tom Tom site, it updates the software to work on Windows Mobile ver 5, straightforward installation and the software works the same as on the 168, but faster. So please be aware that at this point in time there is little or no compatible softare for GPS and the 201, with the exception of my experience.
When you do install via this method, there is no voice selected, simply use the main installation cd....use add extras/options and select the jane volice (default) and now you will be up and fully funcional

| | you could have installed tomtom 5 from the cab files on the memory card without updating your tomtom.

| | well as tom tom 5 europe comes on cd, that would be a little difficult, and the point of a post like mine was to try and inform others with a similar problem how to resolve it. Your reply doesn't actually inform anyone of a procdure .
The compatibility issue concerns the difference in windows versions and the tom tom patch makes the programme windows mobile 5 compatible.
the Mio 201 is a pda, not 'my tom Tom' and as nobody was even aware there was a problem until the 13th december i doubt your offered solution would work

| | The following works. If you follow to the letter. If you have not done so already please insert the SD card and go
through the full install procedure selecting "Yes" and using the
"Device" for install.
If after this point when you run TomTom you find that the program
flashes and then closes you need to do the following:
Goto "Start">"Programs" and select "File Explorer"
Select "My Device" from the drop down list and locate the "Program
Files" folder. Within this folder you will need to locate and open
"Navigator".
Inside this folder should be 3-4 files, you will notice a file called
"Navigator" which does not have the red TomTom hand logo next to it-
"Navigator.cfg"; Delete this file.
Now go back to open TomTom from the short cut on the main page.
You should find this now works.
When asked to activate the product please follow steps carefully
Do not activate product yet. press manual activate but at first DO NOT
activate the code with this an enter a fake code, i.e just enter one
letter.
At this point you will be shown a new device code. Visit www.ttcode.com
and activate the product with this device code and product code now
enter this code into the mio and you should find it sucessful.
If you are installing this using the Navigator 5 CD's of Western Europe
you will find you are able to install up until the point where you
choose a voice and then the program will crash.
You need to visit www.tomtom.com and download the tomtom 5.21 update.
Carry on the installation from here using the same activation guide as
detailed above. |

thanks | To download the update for TomTom 5,
Go to www.tomtom.com -> support -> PDA navigation -> TomTom 5 -> updates manuals (3rd drop down menu box) -> look near the bottom of the page and you will see Update December 2005 - TomTom NAVIGATOR 5.2xx - Pocket PC/Palm OS

| | Thank you for the info. The download was fine.
I have installed maps and voices onto storage card but cannot open TT% on start menu. After the first try i am promted for langage, time format, voice, then OK. At this promt, i go back to the main menu. When i try to click on TT icon, the screen flashes, and a small TT logo appears on the bottom left corner then disappears. Tried hard and soft resetting, reinstalling TT5.21 and the same prob occurs. I have also tried various setting on the GPS menu (also set to auto) and no difference.
any advice?? Quote: |

any advice?? | I had this same problem but when the Navigation.cfg was renamed I was able to get into the initial configuration window but when click on Select for the Voice to be used, it just sits there making the PDA unuseable.
Soft reset does not resolve it, any clues anybody??? |

| | i had the same problem and i left a solution in another thread, make sure you have a folder called voices in the main directory where docs is and and ensure there are some voices in there (im stuck with sean connery and ozzy lol)
you will be able to select the voice but it may still hang so you need to check that there is a file in mydocs/tomtom called currentmap.dat
if there isnt one then open notepad on ur pc and type
/storage card/great-britain-map/
the above varies depending where your maps are located and what they are called, replace the first bit with the location if not on storage card and the last bit changes to the folder name where the maps are.
now click save as, select all files not .txt and save as currentmap.dat
transfer to the folder mention above.
this should stop it handing as it hangs because it cannot locate maps.
now also those who have a problem locking onto gps after installing (took 10 mins each time to lock on) there is a bit of software freely availiable for download. its just a gps test software but strabgely if you run it before starting tomtom, tomtom will lock onto signal straight away, hope this helps Quote: |
