Default Mio 168 dodgy connector

I'm peeved. Irked, even.
I love my Mio. Apart from once trying to direct me off a cliff, and once up a river ( which I put down to the TomTom software, rather than the hardware) it has been a little gem.
I love the fact it is about 1/2 the size of my old Compaq, with more processing power. I love the fact I can use it as an E-book, a navigator, a video player and an alarm clock.
What I am not happy with is the fact that when I plugged it in tonight, to install the latest Tomtom software, the blessed sync/power socket disintigrated.
On the other hand, what I am happy about is that, after reading this forum, I discovered the Mio has a two year warranty, and after a bit of frantic searching ( I'm anal, and keep all my receipts) I found the receipt from Expansys from December 22nd 2004. So it is still under warranty!
I'm now waiting for Mio to reply to my email, and hopefully I can get this sorted.
Reading previous threads, this is a not uncommon problem, and the repair is fairly fast. One question. Is it a *good* fix? Does it last? (Okay, that's two questions...)

Thanks, Total PDA!

Gaz

My mate had the same problem and had a new board fitted, so far it has lasted well.

The only problem is he had to reactivate the maps as his device now has a different code and he had to set up everything from scratch.

Finally managed to get hold of Mio yesterday.
A box is being sent, and the machine will be repaired and returned within seven days.
That is pretty good service, if it happens. I am seriously impressed.

The evelope arrived yesterday morning, as promised, postage paid. The Mio was then posted yesterday PM. I'll update as and when the repaired unit returns. So far, Mio, 110% customer satisfaction.
Has anyone had any recurring troubles with this fault, or is the repair a good'un?

Gaz

I had my Mio 168 repaired coz it had the same dodgey charging connector. I used a company in kent called apex laptops. Not a bad service at all. just glad my GPS is now working again. I'm useless at directions. Mitac quoted me a ridculous amount to repair it. Apex were a bit better. their website if you like it is www.apexlaptops.co.uk. hope this helps.

When my 2 year guarantee runs out, I'll be using the site you've recommended if need be.

Thanks Munkee Majic.

All praise to Mio. I had a letter in my letterbox today to collect the parcel from the sorting office.
One minor problem here. The post office have lost it

Okay. Colour me *Impressed*
I collected the Mio from the Post Orifice this morning.
It actually arrived there on Monday morning.
It has received a new motherboard and a clean, and is looking good.
The miserable devils could have charged the battery though

Well done to Mio UK. Astounding service!
