Default navman 1cn 510

Hi all

I first bought my navman 510 when they first came out complete with European maps and speed camera detection installed when i first opened the package i installed all maps of Europe including the ferry ports from the software discs suppliied in the package .

It has never let me down or taken me to the wrong place .

Since owning it i have never updated maps , infact i don't know if there are any updated maps available for it , is there .

A few question please has there been any software updates , also has the software been updated to be able to use to postcode finder yet as i have never been able to use this function i believe when i first bought mine this software had not been completed and navman was still waiting for it.

My daughter lives in Holland i live in weymouth Dorset i usually see her a few time a yr usually by flying to Holland but now retired want to drive there taking things a little slower , now this is where my problem starts (ferry crossings) i programme it to take me to dover where i sleep at dover west premier inn over night and on to the dover Dunkirk ferry early the next morning , but when i try to programme it from home in weymouth it always routes me through Calais it will never recognise Dunkirk ferry port or ostend ferry port further along the coast nice small cruise and less driving for me any ideas please on this would very much appreciated . my thanks for any replies in advance . hc

It won't really matter as once you get off the ferry the device will know where it is and recalculate the route from your exact position to the destination (as this won't have changed) you can then follow it as you continue your trip.

If you are seeing it planning a strange route while sat at home don't worry too much as not all ferry crossings will be in the map data and the device usually only has one crossing per port. Most newer units tend to send everyone to the channel tunnel these days!! But with a little working out its not difficult to set a different port as an intermediate stop - Mike

hi mike

That is what I'm trying to over come , even as part of a trip planner it will not recognise any other DESTINATION port, it still insists on going through Calais , i understand i can switch it on when in Dunkirk and it will reroute for me , but it would be nice if i could programme my route and it obeys my request for once .

As far as I can remember (and its a few years since I last played around with a 510) but doesn't have the option for "Itinerary Planning" if you use this you will be able to force the device to plan a route via a number of points under your control including the two ports - Mike

"Itinerary Planning"
Hi mike

no it does not , only trip planner .

I've since been reading on the navman website they no longer sale maps for this model either , hmm so i don't suppose they never actually got the post code software side of things sorted either . might be time to research tom tom or another make to see if they can actually do what there supposed to . hc
