Default Navman 510 questions after puchasing

Hi,

I have, and still do own TomTom navigation 2 and 3 (PDA and separate receiver setup) and really liked using them, but recently I have had problems with it crashing and losing connection (due to the PDA not TomTom).

Anyway I wanted to buy an all in one unit (i.e. TomTom Go or Navman 510) and after weighing up the pros and cons I plumped for the Navman (and purchased it yesterday).

Some questions about the Navman if I may:

Is it true that you cannot add POIs on the Navman unless you connect it to a computer !!

With TomTom 3 I used to add to my POIs all the time (when seeing a new Shell Petrol station for instance) but it seems that you cannot do this with the Navman...... Is this correct?? I know that the TomTom Go can.

Also, when creating a start point and a destination in Navman (without a GPS lock), why doesn’t it give me a distance or time on the route summery. It does do if I have a GPS lock but I like to plan my route in advance (i.e. the night before to get an idea of how long it will take me to get to my destination).

I know it will give me the information if I put it on route demonstration, but I don’t want to do that every time I want the information….. is my unit faulty as I believe this should be a basic function on a sat-nav system.

Sorry to have ranted but I feel a bit depressed (and ripped off) at the moment that I cannot use the Navman for what I believe it should be able to do.

Cheers

Marc

I think you're right - POI's have to be done via your PC. Hadn't noticed that one before.

The route summary doesn't show distances, etc without a GPS lock. I tend to plan ahead too, to make sure the 510 goes the way I wanted to go. Given that I have a rough idea of how long and how far I need to travel, that's never really worried me. Still, you can always do it in the garden!
