| | | Navman on IPAQ Hi I've contacted Navman support and they seem very slow at responding. I thought I would post my problem here to see if anyone has any idea. I sent this to Navman and they suggested I use GPSINFO.EXE: "I have been using the GPS 4400 (software is Smart ST V2) satisfactorily in the UK and and have just been on holiday in Spain, again the GPS worked fine in Spain. On return to the UK, I cannot get a GPS fix at all (segments do not even start to change to yellow)- I can make the Bluetooth connection, COM port is OK but no satellites are found. I have left it running for 20 minutes or so before giving up (on several occasions) - in the past it has never taken more than a couple of minutes to get a fix. I have read through your FAQs and there is nothing obviously wrong." No luck with GPSINFO.EXE so I sent this: "I downloaded GPSInfo from your website as my ISP rather inconveniently deleted the file you sent me (alledged virus!!). The version I downloaded is version 6.9, I assume this is what you tried to send me. However, it's still not working. I set the COM port to 6, click "scan COM Port" and set the baud rate to 57600 (as I always have done), click "start GPS" and then click "Cold Start". Various code scrolls through the setup screen (like $GPRMC.000328.123V36000.000N72000.000E......). Ths continues until I switch off. UTC increases incrimentally. The co-ordinates for Lat do change but only from N 360.00.0001 to 360.00.0059 then back to 360.00.0001 again The co-ordinates for Lon do not change (from 720.00.0000). No satellites are found let alone a fix being acheived." No reply from Navman yet, does anyone have any ideas? Thanks |

| | | Yes, I've tried a soft reset. I haven't tried a hard reset but I'm reluctant to do this unless absolutely necessary (I don't want to have to re-install everything).
My suspicion is that the Navman GPS is broken, I would just like to confirm this before I get another GPS receiver. |

Could you do a backup,do a hard reset and then restore from the backup?
Do you know anyone who has an Ipaq on which you could test your Navman sleeve?
As you say the Navman may be broken.

| | | Hello
I've been using the same set up on an Ipaq 5550. You say the Com port is set to 6 but the 4400 uses Com port 8. Have you tried that?

| | | Hello.
What Pda are you using ?
I have an Ipaq 3870 which has bluetooth manager.
Check with Bluetooth manager and make sure that you have a partnership with the gps receiver.I had a similar problem today until I realised that I didnt have a bluetooth partnership.
Make sure that the settings in Navman are correct.
In gpsinfo set the com port and baud rate to auto detect and see if that shows which com port is active.
There is another Gps info program called BtGpsCe.If you do a search you will find it.
It sound like a settings problem. Quote: |

| | | I got no reply from Navman but I 'phoned them.
They said it sounded like the unit was broken and as it was 12 1/2 months old, it was out of warranty. If I sent it back to them with a cheque for £15, they said they would look at it and tell me how much it would cost to fix. They couldn't give me any clue as to the cost and said it may well be cheaper to buy a new one.
I wasn't too impressed with this but, I have now bought a new one anyway.
In view of what seemed to me to be poor customer service, I wasn't going to buy a Navman, I bought a Fortuna Bluetooth Clip-on. It may have a silly name - but it works fine!
Thanks for your advice

| | | No, I didn't try it with another Ipaq.
However, since the Ipaq / Fortuna combination are working ok, I think it must be the Navman that just broke (2 weeks out of warranty!).
Thanks for your help | |
