Silly question but, how do i know it's charging?

Silly question but, how do i know it's charging?

The manual to my navman icn 330 doesnt tell me, all it tells me is that it has a rechargeable battery, but i have a mains adapter and i plug the cigerette adapter into it and both flash red to tell me its working, but when i plug into the navman theres nothing that tells me its recharging, can anyone help?
