I've had the T1 for my N20 since December 2006. Its performance when within range of a decent Classic FM signal is good but getting that signal is variable. I commute up/down the M11 and get no usable signal north of junction 9, nor up the A11 either, nor around Cambridge in general. It works most of the way around the M25 and in longer trips has had signal about 75% of the time down the M23, M3, M40 and A14 (both east and west of Cambridge).
However, since I spend 95% of my driving miles going between London and Cambridge I was pretty peeved that reception was poor along at least half my route (some 20-25 miles of major motorway). I tried getting support from Navman but they were hopeless, insisting that I reload their software (which never worked, no matter what mechanism or downloads they asked me to use) and when I eventually persuaded them to swap the T1 and its aerial (in case either had a hardware fault which was affecting radio reception) the new unit had exactly the same problem.
So, in answer to peterats' original question, if you have connected the unit correctly, then you may simply be unfortunate and have poor Classic FM (RDS) reception in your area. I asked them whether one could get an external antenna but that seemed to confuse them (I'd already tried the antenna in every possible position on my windscreen - it's still held there by bluetak, because I wasn't going to use their stickers until I knew reception was good) - one day I'll hang the aerial out the window and just see if it improves reception sufficiently to improve the T1 performance.
I'm not sure about kennyboy31's suggestion about drive mode - I can switch to the T1 screen at any point, whether or not I am following a Navman route - and can see the traffic updates appearing and disappearing fine.
Hope the above is helpful. |
