Question Tungsten T5 & Navman 4100 Compatibility!

As a Newbie to GPS I am interested in buying a Navman 4100 receiver to run 3rd party Palm OS based application, with Bluetooth.

I note that the Navman Navigation software 4460 and 4470 are not compatible with the T5, only compatible with the T3!!!!

Can anyone tell me why this is so as the T5 is a later version of Palm?

Thanks in anticipation.....

Beano

Welcome to our forums.
It's because the T5 uses Palm OS5.4 which isn't supported by their SmartST software.

Question

I have had a reply from Navman saying a new version of their software will be T5 (presumably OS5.4) compatible. This will be issued later this year!

1. I presume SmartST is the generic name for their navigation software.
2. Can anyone tell me what software resides in the Navman Receiver? Or is it normally on the pda.
3. Are the different software versions for different pda platforms therefore given unique numbers? (ie 4460 4470 etc)

Are other types of software available for different applications for example using the pda as a datalogger?

Sorry if I am appearing to ask strange questions but I want to know what other applications GPS can be, or have been, applied.

Regards

Beano

1 - Yes SmarST is the generic name for Navmans software.
2 - Only the "firmware" is located on the receiver, the rest is on the PDA.
3 - Yes- 4460/4470 is for Palm based, 4410/4420 is PocketPC based.

There is software for datalogging but most people who require this end up coding their own as everyone has different requirements.
