Default T5 and TomTom5 update - map problem

I need a little help

About 1 month ago, I bought a T5 and Tomtom Navigator 3 - but after a few weeks of using it I decided to upgrade to Navigator 5 (to get the postcode support)

After a few days (well, a bit longer than that) the disks finally arrived and I followed the very smal instructions - I deleted the maps, installed the upgrade, syncronised the palm, and then tried to install the maps and synced again

I think TT5 is on the palm now (I wish it displayed its version number when it starts so you know what you have got), when I start the s/w, I choose things like Language, time format, miles or kilometers, the voice and then I get to select a map, but it says "No maps found" and I get the choice to cancel or download a map - if I select down load a map, it tries to connect to the interent asking for passwords and user names and then fails because I dont have an internet connection for the palm (besides I dont want to download the maps, I have them on CD-ROM)

Does anyone know how to get the T5 to find the maps which I have downloaded to the SD card (or internal memory, I dont mind really)

I have tried going back to the previous version of Tomtom, I've done all sorts of reboots, I have even upgraded the firmware of the T5 just in case that was the problem

I guess an alternative would be to remove TT5 and go back to the previous version, but I dont know how to get rid of the new version - any ideas?

I have e-mailed the Tomtom support e-mail thing and am waiting the "5 days" - which is a bit irritating...

Has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Jim

I have exactly the same problem, I have just upgarded my HP1710 with nav 3 to a T5 and purchased nav 5 to go with it, and i get the same messages as you. I am also not that impressed with the instructions from Tom Tom. I would be grateful if you could forward any help to me and I will do the same. I have also sent e mails to Tom Tom.

Have just purchased a CD with all files for upgrade attached, copy this to SD card load onto PDA and bingo it works, can supply for small cost. Send e mail only if you have registration codes for activation

I have the same issue - and think it may be an installation script problem ( I found a post that said TomTom admitted to some faulty CDs on another issue recently). I can install the application fine but it doesn't allow me the chance to install any maps. TomTom 'Support' shows that the system will install the app and then offer you the chance to install map(s) but mine just goes back to the CD main menu rather than the menu shown on their support site.

I know they have to protect themselves but doing so by making the product impossible to use is going a bit too far ( and, yes, it is a legal copy)

Right. Sorted it. Put the map CD in the drive. Run setup.exe and you get a message saying 'out of memory'. Click OK. Go to Start/Run and enter %temp%. Scroll to setup.exe and delete it. Go to start/run. Browse to the CD. Double click on setup.exe.

Worked for me.

Also find the same guidance on the TomTom site - search for 'out of memory' problem.
