Unhappy Tungsten T5 and TomTom problem

Very new to this stuff, bought a PalmOne Tunsten T5 with TomTom Navigator as a package from PCWorld last weekend.
I consistently get a '4019' error when trying to hotsync the software, 'unable to create database' and 'synccreateDB returned 4019'.
After 1.5hrs on the phone to PalmOne support, they gave up and referred me to TomTom, who I cannot get through to.
Any suggestions gratefully received, a refund comes to mind at the moment.

I've got this same problem. I've updated tomtom navigator 5 to version 5.12 and since this I'm getting same error message.
Also today I've found out that when I'm using Tomtom my palm keeps switching itself off. I've tried changing the settings in pref -> power... did not help.
