Bluetooth device "locked"

I recently bought a used Treo 650 with a gps device (cpit-GPS). The treo seemed to access this gps unit until I changed the user id on the Palm. Now the bluetooth configuration shows this unit with a symbol of a key, which I guess means it is somehow locked out. Anyway, I can't add it to the list of known bluetooth devices and, thus, access it. Can anyone tell me what this key symbol means and how I get rid of it?
