Palm will not hot sync with computer

I have the Palm Visor and it was working fine then I had to do some antivirus installations and now I get an error message when I try to snyc up with the computer. I am running Windows XP Media edition and I installed a spybot antivirus program to kill a virus I had. Now it tells me that COM port1 is unavailable at this time and Hot sync manager will open the port when it comes avalable. I have nothing else hooked up to my lap top, I print via infared and have a wireless mouse hooked to a usb port but nothing else. What is going on? how do I fix this?
